Budget for Vietnam

Hi, I'm booked on to the Vietnam Adventure trip in August and, having never been to Vietnam, I'm just wondering how much money I should take with me. I understand it's cheap for food and drink, and I may wish to take advantage of the tailors in Hoi An. What would be a sensible amount to take? And how widely used are credit cards?

Thanks,
Louise

Hi Louise,

I had booked the same trip for sept but due to the lack of numbers, i changed it to the Vietnam Cycling. I have about 6-7 weeks to go. As for money, from what I have read the food is cheap so I am just taking £300 max. I am not too sure about credit cards (avoid them):)

£300? Don't you think it won't be enough?

Hi Abbas,

I have just returned from my trip - it was fab; I'm sure you'll have a great time.

In terms of money, I ended up budgeting around £500 and pretty much spent all of it. Food and drink were cheap - regularly having 2 course meals with drinks for under £10. One lunch, from a local bakery, cost less than £1 (baguette, cake and drink!) I did take up the vast majority of optional activities on offer and had drinks after dinner most nights - not sure how many optional activities you'll have on the cycling tour, nor how likely it'll be that you're having evening drinks. I also bought a few souvenirs.

ATMs are everywhere (at least they were in the towns and cities) so you don't need to worry about taking local currency with you.

Hope that helps,
Louise

Hi Louise,

Thank you for the travel tips. I think I may have to revise my £300 to a bit more :). It is 20 days to go now and will start some light holiday shopping next week. Glad you had a good time :)
