Booked this trip last week and really looking forward to it, and meeting others in the group

Sorry - coming late to the blog - but now all paid up and ready to go! Can't wait - I'm guessing we will have an excellent trip!

Di

PS - Tim another member of our group is on another thread - so suggest we bring them together....

Hi Di, Kasia and Tim,

I'll also be with you on this trip;  looking forward to meeting you all.

The variety on this trip aside from the cycling looks great - visiting an active volcano will be a first. Hopefully I'll catch up with some of you at the Heathrow departure although I might be a bit bleary eyed in travelling in from the Midlands.  I usually wander around, wearing headphones when on my own  and with cycling helmet dangling from the back pack!

Ed

I'll also be on the group flight.

Look forward to meeting you all in the not too distant future.

Hi Ed and Kasia - lovely to hear from you both - and now I really can't wait for our trip to start :-)

Today I am planning on buying a few bits and bobs that are outstanding from my kit list....  :-)

Hi All,

A friend was on this trip in Feb. I asked her to avoid any spoilers.  Points summarised below:

Mozzies - take some spray, expect the odd bite but they weren't a problem for the Feb trip.  My added on comment - naturally I'm not is a position to advocate that as advice for you.

Hotels - generally pretty nice; some real stunners. In terms of laundry you could hand wash in your room and/or save up for a bigger laundry task on the rest day at La Fortuna (CR)

Biking - assessment was that the activity rating is probably due to the off roading sections rather than steepness of climbs or fitness requirements. Friend didn't really think that cleats were needed, she did use them. Personally for these trips I've only ever taken flat trainers / sandals although I use cleats in the UK.

Logistics - bus transfers can be long so allow for that. Costa Rica is pricey. For the Feb group the guides paid for stuff and then recharged you

Overall - "It was fab! ...tons to look forward to"

Cheers, Ed

Thanks Ed for all the helpful info.

I normally ride with cleats in the UK but am planning to use trainers for the trip.

Just sorted out my ESTA- a bit annoying we need it when we are only transiting via US.

Did your friend give any mention re:expediture? Going to order my travel money soon.

Not long to go now!! Planning to start my packing this weekend. Exciting stuff

Hi Kasia,

Yeah the ESTA was a pain. To fill it out I was going through old emails to check my past travel history - there's a question on the ESTA regarding disclosure if you've been to certain countries in the past few years.

My friend did mention expenditure - she used $700 plus any bigger purchases on a debit card.  I don't know the mix of pre-ordered cash and ATM withdrawals whilst on the trip. I'm not a big fan of carrying a lot of cash so I'll pre-order an amount, but top up using ATMs on the trip.

I feel that I should really get some basic Spanish practice in ahead of the trip. How are your language skills?

Ed

Thanks for the reminder Kasia - will sort this evening. Thanks also for all the inside info Ed - much appreciated and yes, i need to order cash too... time to get a bit more organised!

PS I am hooking up with Tim at the airport - a fellow cycling holiday buddy. If either of you also want to meet up - i'm on 07739808131. Evidently our seats are all preallocated - so checking in should be easy (ish)....

hi Ed and Kasia

we have a long journey ahead of us on Saturday. Please try and hook up at the airport in London. I'm on 07710009397. Bye for now. Tim

Thanks Tim.

My number is 07897 619563.

See you at the airport.

Look forward to meeting you all.

I will have just finished a run of busy night shifts so may be a bit dazed and sleep for most of the journey- apologies in advance!
