The Altai Mountains mark the spot where Russia, China, Mongolia and Kazakhstan meet, and the devastatingly beautiful landscape makes a journey here unforgettable. Such is its impressive beauty that in the early 20th century, Russian philosopher and painter Nicholas Roerich came here to search for the entrance to Shambhala, the enlightened land of Tibetan Buddhism.
