Ilboru Safari Lodge or similar Day 2 To Lake Manyara National Park, an afternoon game drive This morning we leave the town of Arusha behind as we drive to Lake Manyara National Park (approx. 2.5 hours). We enjoy a bike ride/walk en-route in the fertile plantation town of Mto wa Mbu, dominated by the Rift Valley wall towering over it. This is a great chance to expereince the lives of the local population, on the border of the park. Lake Manyara is one of Tanzania’s more intimate parks and has some incredible birdlife, and unique wildlife. The glistening lake shore teems with birds and the park is famous for its elusive tree-climbing lions which are an incredible sight. Our camp is tucked away in the most exclusive location deep in the park, with the striking cliffs of the Rift escarpment forming a dramatic backdrop to our first experience of the region's magnificent wildlife. WAYO Manyara Green Camp or similar Meals included: Breakfast Lunch Dinner Day 3 Full day in Lake Manyara National Park Today we enjoy a full day basking in the splendour of Lake Manyara National Park. We will have a morning walk on the lake shores, when you can learn more about plants, insects, birds and small mammals from your knowledgeable guide. The remainder of the day will be filled with various game drives throughout the park in search of the resident wildlife. Due to the location on the river, our camp often attracts herds of buffalo and elephant which we can watch over a sundowner this evening. WAYO Manyara Green Camp or similar Meals included: Breakfast Lunch Dinner Day 4 Manyara to Serengeti We bid farewell to Lake Manyara today, and end on a high note with the first treetop walkway in Tanzania, in Lake Manyara NP. This 370m airwalk starts with a short boardwalk that gradually rises from ground level up through the canopy of the forest. You walk over a series of suspension bridges with thick netting on the sides, and reach a height of 18m off the ground. Each of the bridges end on a viewing deck situated around tree trunks. These treetop platforms are perfect places to stop and enjoy life in the canopy amongst butterflies, monkeys and birds. En route to the Serengeti, we drive through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area where we can get stunning views of this, the 8th wonder of the World from the rim, an inspiring sight to behold. The Ngorongoro Conservation Area is dotted with Maasai bomas and you will likely see them grazing their cattle alongside the road. We arrive in the Serengeti National Park via Naabi gate, arriving late afternoon at camp with game drives en-route. Which of the 2 camps we stay at is decided by the location of the annual migration and proximity of other wildlife to get us closest to the action. WAYO Serengeti Green Camp (Naabi/Banagi) or similar Meals included: Breakfast Lunch Dinner Day 5 Full day Serengeti National Park Today we will enjoy a full day of game viewing in the Serengeti National Park, rising early to make the most of our time in this vast wilderness. Our guides will choose the best spotting locations for the time of year. We can spend time at the hippo pool watching these comical animals laze about in the water happily living alongside the crocodiles, or perhaps find ourselves in the middle of the migration, surrounded by wildebeest and zebras. We journey through wide open plains to the kopjes, these volcanic rocky outcrops provide protection and shelter for a wide variety of animals, in particular, lions and from the top we can see out across the vast grasslands of the Serengeti. This diverse and interesting landscape will provide us with the ultimate in game viewing, we will be hoping to elephants, giraffe, zebra, wildebeest, lions, cheetah and if you are lucky the elusive leopard, as well as huge amounts of interesting bird life such as the elegant secretary birds and the flightless ostrich. WAYO Serengeti Green Camp (Naabi/Banagi) or similar Meals included: Breakfast Lunch Dinner Day 6 Game drive in Ngorongoro Crater. This morning we will rise early to leave the Serengeti, and drive through the Ngorongoro Conservation to reach the descent road into the Crater. An ancient caldera, Ngorongoro is a conservation area rather than a national park. This means that whole area is managed for both the animals and the local Maasai people who graze their cattle alongside the indigenous wildlife. During the drive down to the crater floor we will gain a glimpse of the Maasai’s pastoralist lifestyle. The crater walls provide a natural sanctuary for the animals, which means there is plenty to see including lions, elephants, buffalo, rhino and leopard (if you are lucky enough). The only animal you won’t see in here is a giraffe, whose long legs are unable to cope with the steeps sides of the crater. In the late afternoon, we will ascend and make our way the short distance to our lodge for the night. Rhotia Valley Tented Lodge or similar Meals included: Breakfast Lunch Dinner Day 7 Game drives in Tarangire N.P; stay at a lodge within the park. Birdlife congregates along the river banks, and herds of giraffe, zebra, buffalo and in particular, an elephant can be seen in abundance. This park boasts the biggest population of elephant in Northern Tanzania, with herds numbering in the hundreds. Predators such as lions and leopards are also regularly spotted here. Tanzania Most nationalities require a tourist visa for Tanzania, including British nationals, most EC nationals, Australians, New Zealanders, Americans and Canadians. The visa is available at the border and the cost for British and most other European Nationals is USD50 cash, whilst for US citizens it is USD100 cash. It is possible to get the visa online, this can take at least ten days and up to 3 weeks. For more information and to apply for the visa please visit - https://eservices.immigration.go.tz/visa/ If you are flying into Kilimanjaro Airport then we recommend arranging the visa in advance as the visa on arrival process has become more complicated and can now take longer.
Tanzania Please note that although Tanzania does not officially require proof of Yellow Fever vaccination, at most airports and other points of entry you may be required to show a certificate of vaccination or an exemption certificate. This includes coming from Europe via, or transiting through an endemic country including the airports of Nairobi (Kenya) and Addis Ababa (Ethiopia). If visiting Zanzibar from mainland Tanzania border officials have been known to demand proof of Yellow Fever vaccination or an exemption certificate. Recommended vaccinations are: Polio, Tetanus, Typhoid, Hepatitis A. Malaria prophylaxis is essential and we suggest that you seek advice from your GP or travel health clinic about which malaria tablets to take. Dengue fever is a known risk in places visited. It is a tropical viral disease spread by daytime biting mosquitoes. There is currently no vaccine or prophylaxis available for Dengue, and therefore the best form of prevention is to avoid being bitten. We recommend you take the usual precautions to avoid mosquito bites.
Luxury Tented Camps and Lodges You will spend 1 night in a lodge, 2 nights in permanent tented lodges and 4 nights in semi-permanent luxury tented camps. MANYARA GREEN CAMP:Tucked away underneath towering fig trees along a dry riverbed is our newly upgraded Manyara Green Camp. The southern end of Lake Manyara National park is quiet and so privacy and exclusivity here are what makes this camp so special. At the end of the dry riverbed is a 4 million year old waterfall where gigantic crystalline quartz boulders create a natural stairway to a waterfall and hidden beach, ideal for a quick dip or sundowners where you can sit quietly and enjoy all the action down below as buffalo, elephant and other wildlife come to drink from the fresh waters of the Endabash falls. Our camp comprises 8 square en-suite eco tents on raised platforms. Each tent can be set up as double, twin or triple for families. With cosy beds, stylish interiors and deck to relax on each tent has been cleverly designed to offer the greatest comfort with minimum impact to the environment. Simple luxuries, comfortable beds, crisp linens, our low flush toilets and classic bush showers ensure you can relax and wind down after a full day enjoying the wildlife. Our stylish central mess tent has lounge chairs and a small library so you can relax in complete comfort during the day. PLEASE NOTE: Due to the limited number of tents at Manyara Green Camp, we may be unable to provide the larger square tents with decking to everyone booking a single supplement. Clients booking single supplements may therefore be put in slightly smaller round tents without decking (same as the Serengeti Green Camp tents). Early bookers will likely be upgraded to the square tents however. Our meals are simply done with delicious home cooked 3-course lunches and suppers cooked on the open fires served to your table under the stars whilst you plunge your feet into the sandy riverbed underneath. SERENGETI GREEN CAMPLocation Location Location…..Our Serengeti Green Camp moves from Southern Serengeti (Naabi Hill area Mid Dec-March) to the Northern Serengeti (Kogatende area July – Nov) which allows us to ensure you are always in the very best location to get close to the magic of the migration and all the wildlife action. In the Naabi area, our camp is located in a beautiful quiet area at the foot of the giant Naabi rocky kopje underneath towering acacia torillis trees overlooking the vast Serengeti short grass plains. Here we are well placed to be able to head further south, west or north to wherever the migration is moving. In the north, our Serengeti Green camp is located in a beautiful area in the Nyamalumbwa Hills. Set amongst natural springs which are teaming with wildlife all year long, we are also a short game drive from the Kogatende river where you can witness one of nature’s spectacles, the wildebeest and zebra river crossings of the Great Migration. The camp is on the edge of the wilderness zone, away from the hustle and bustle of the crossings and the other camps, remote but still accessible to the crossings. Similar to our Manyara Green camp our Serengeti Green Camp comprises 10 square en-suite tents. Each tent can be set up as double, twin or triple for families. With cosy beds, stylish interiors and outdoor seating to relax on, each tent has been cleverly designed to offer the greatest comfort with minimum impact to the environment. Simple luxuries comfy beds, crisp linens, with our eco composting toilets and classic bucket bush showers ensure you can relax and wind down after a full day enjoying the wildlife. Our stylish central mess tent has lounge chairs and a small library so you can relax in complete comfort during the day.Our meals are simply done with delicious home cooked 3-course suppers cooked on the open fires served to your table under the stars. At each camp we can set up private dining areas on request with your own private fireplace, butler and tent, however, most guests prefer to enjoy the communal dining sharing stories of wildlife encounters around the fire.
